Hi - I've created user on our AIX server, but if you logon with the user you can't export anything, it doesn't recognize the export comman (e.g export -o vi). Is there anything I can set for this to work. Further our network run on DHCP - must I use an IP if I export the display?

It should be 'set -o vi' not export

if you type 'set' on its own what do you get ?

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the quick reply. If I type set it gives me some environment info like the shell and so on. If I type set -o vi it gives me a syntax error. Is there anything I must add?

Thanks

What shell are you using ?

I'm pretty sure set -o vi is for /bin/ksh only

Alex

the set -o vi is correct been using it .

i have difficulties exporting DISPLAY using hostname if my setting is on DHCP. I am running exceed.
I have not been able to do this in my exceed for quite sometime
export DISPLAY=hostname:0.0 (using dhcp)
but got around it by
export DISPLAY=10.X.X.X:0.0 (X.X.X is the ip address on ipconfig command)

Thanks for all the help. I am using the c shell - what commands can I use for the cshell if set doesn't work?
Thanks.
