Hi all,

The strangest thing happened when I changed the regional language setting on my boyfriend's computer. First of all, it's windows XP home edition that came pre-installed when he bought the computer.

After I switched the langauge setting back, explorer.exe stopped working. Anything that runs off explorer.exe would not open anymore. My computer doesn't open (the explorer.exe error message dialog box pops up, clears the desktop for a sec, then goes back to normal, nothing opened), Internet Explorer doesn't open, search/run don't work, and of course there's no way of getting into the directory files or any folders 'cause they all run off explorer.exe. Other programs work fine though. And as long as I don't have to go inside a folder to retreive a file, the files opens fine.

I am suspecting it has something to do with changing the langauge setting, but I have no way of getting into it to change it since it too runs off explorer.exe.

Help!!

Thanks!

Lydia

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer. If it won't open for you there is an option to use System Restore when entering Safe Mode.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?)

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

I have something similar - go into task manager and go to new->task and type explorer.exe than do a repair from the compaq disks
