Each time I try to move, cut, copy or even highlight an avi file, explorer.exe comes up with an error message, and has to shut down then restart. Any ideas how to fix this annoyance?

The error message is "explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created." The screen then goes blank, then restores my active desktop and closes the folder that had the avi file(s). This happens every time I just drag my cursor over any avi file. I can't even click and access the file. All other files (mpeg, mp3, etc.) are fine. Sorry I didn't get all this info to you the first posting. Thanks!

heh, didnt even know win2k could give that error.
did you install any software that could be related to avi files ?
sounds like some piece of software trying to get info about the file and failing to do so
