Help!! I'm trying to fix my buddy's Win98 machine.
After booting up I get a message with Eplorer in the title bar, the message reads The progam has erformed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If I click on the details it reveals that EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module PRPNDI.DLL at 0167:10017d00.
If I click CLOSE then I loose my desktop and then if I press Cntl-Alt-Del it displays that the following are still running: rundll32, lexpps, msgloop, msg32.
Also, as long as I don't close the error message I can work around it with all the other programs.
I have reloaded Win98 and downloaded all the critical updates... however, there are 4 that will not load.... 2 are 98 updates and 2 are IE6 updates.... I assume they will not load because of the Open Explorer error.
Finally, there is also some adware that keeps popping up...even if I don't open IE.
I was able to get rid of the 18 viruses and clean up the 98 infected files as determined by Trend Micro's Online scanner.
I think I am close... any help will be appreciated as always.
Thanks!
