Run a Virus Scan on your machine with the latest virus definition updates. If it checks out OK try these.

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?) .

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP (Q315341)

I have done a virus scan and everything checks out ok.My system restore was turned of for sometime so I can only go back a few weeks which don't help,I have ran the system file checker several times with no success.I have not tried it in safe mode, it only happens at random.Maybe a reinstall is in order. Thanks for the information

Well I have done a clean install and problem solved, it was time to clean out the cobwebs any I think. Thanks again I appreciate your help.
