I have a troubled computer. Frsh install of Win2k for about 2 months now.

933MHZ
1.5GB ram
40gb HDD

When the computer is booted, i get constant popup errors saying that explorer.exe has crashed. They show in Event viewer saying that explorer crashed and is restarted. Sometimes the PC even decides to just reboot on it's own, and sometimes upon rebooting I get a blue screen with a Stop: error telling me to run checkdisk...which i do and it says everything is fine. This thing is driving me nuts and was trying to avoid reformatting again. Any ideas anyone?....could this be a bad RAM chip?

I just got an NT ATHORITY SYSTEM error forcing shutdown....if that helps at all

Do you have Internet Explorer 6 installed?
IE6 can cause problems in win2k with certain other (unknown) programs installed.
The only "cure" is to remove IE6.
I've had personal experience with this, and know how maddening it can be.

Actually I just left work, frustrated as all hell. After one of these restarts it gave me the NT Authority error again, then said it couldn't load my profile so it loaded into guest. When i rebooted, i got a blue screen with a memorydump error....then i rebotted it again and now at WINLOGIN.exe crashes when it gets to the login screen...

I keep hearing the word reformat being whispered in my ear...

As far as the IE6...yes its on there....but I have 22 other Win2k machines on the network that have IE6 also and nothing's wrong with them. *sob*

I came in this morning...and booted the PC. It started up in the correct user, being admin, but all the prefernces were gone. I redid the preferences and now it seems to be running fine. Don't know what could have caused the proifle to go bad and/or if thats what caused all the crashing
