It keeps on saying server cannot be found.

I'm on windows 98, 64MB SDRAM, 300MHz AMD, 56k Modem.

AOL works fine. but I would like to browse with Internet
Explorer 5.

Any suggestions ?

Tried reinstalling Explorer it won't let me.

AOL I think naturally dont want you to do that, considering they want you to think AOL is "The" internet. Um though I think there should be a setting in AOL that allows you to run outside internet applications(since the AOL dialer is not the same as just using DialUp Network, might have a hardtime finding which connection to use) One crazy idea(I'm just guessing this as I go) is to see if IE will treat the AOL connection like a LAN connection. But check your internet setting, and check the AOL helps , cuz I remeber long time ago(a really long time ago when I first started using the beast) AOL had pages of help that told you how to set up external browsers with AOL.

Now I say this to almost every AOler I come accross
"Graduate from AOL and get a real ISP"
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML, ASP(somewhat), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)

There are a few Microsoft KB articles which discuss problems associated with using IE and AOL as well as configuration information.

The two articles that seem to fall into your category are:
Q165474 & Q238550.

Check them out and see if it helps.

dxd

You do have AOL open and connected when trying to use IE? IE wont browse unless AOL is connected.

I have received this quetion from several clients. We resolved it doing the following:
Go to the "Connection" applet of the "Internet Properties" of IE . Click on "Lan Settings", and check "Use a proxy server". You need not check anything else.
This should point IE to your AOL connection.
