how do I tell win2k pro exactly in which partion to load the "program_files", "swap", "temp" during installation? I like to install the bare bone resource on the C:. I am interested in breaking down my disk in severl partition. win2k installation takes over and does not give the user to make any choices.

thank,

Don't know if you can during install - but pretty quick job shortly after.

winnt32.exe or winnt.exe (w2k installation programs) has a lot of switches. You can fully manage your case by using these switches.
run winnt32.exe /?

the only switch for "winnt" that even comes close is /t="partition", where partion could be define by the user, which put the temp file in. I didn't see any other switch relating to this topic. One of the things I like to do is to allocate swap file to reside on a different partition. It would be nice to place "progam files" folder on different partition. All of this I like to do during insallation. It would be nice to keep only the most esential part that operating system requires in the main system partition. By doing this the size of the C: would be substantially smaller than win2k requires the user to allocate. I like to allocate no more than 650 MB for C:. Then I would place "progrm file" in a different 650 MB and so on.

Any ideas how to proceed.

Program Files - IS essential part of the OS. You can NOT move it to another location during installation (even after too)
Then other (additional) programs (during installtion) you will be able to choose OTHER catalo that Program files and on other partition.
Regarding swap file it will be created on a tempdrive during installation. You can moove it out after the w2k installation will be finished. No other possibilities exists. Sorry. :)

Vitor,

I have succesfully move program files folder to other partition under winnt. Of course, thats after installation.
I learned that from windows annoyance book. After moving the folder to a new partition, I had to go to registry and change all c: references to all programs. Its much easier and less time consuming when done early in the life of the system.

From what I am hearing I have live the installtion and then modify the structure manually.

Thanks to all,

Yes, you 'r right! In that way it is possible. I just mean that with standard MS tools it is not possible... :) futhermore if you 'll register some problem with MS Support I'm definitely sure, that they will not support such a config... that's the way it is. But regardin swap file - it's officially allowed (even recomended) to move it away to some other disk. - fully supported MS configuration.
