Hey guys,

just wondering if anyone has had issues with expansion modules losing their software. it seems like whenever a lightning storm comes around, our expansion modules lose their software and we have to end up replacing them. this never use to happen when we had the Magix in.

we have.....

ip 406v2 5.0.26
vm pro
1-DS30 module
1-30 port phone/analog

any suggestions would be great!!!!!

I imagine you have handsets that are in separate buildings or on long runs of cable, the fact it happens during lightning storms would suggest you have inadequate protection on the cabling, expansion modules do not like millions of volts surging through them :)

no really long cable runs.

we have protection on both sides.

just wondering why it wouldnt happen with the Magix and now all of the sudden it does with the IP OFFICE?

Have you correctly grounded/earthed the system and expansion modules? Perhaps the Magix was installed better than the IPO , not many things can withstand lightning strikes though :)

Install a lightning strike.

A tower that is designed to take the strike.

Have an electrician check your building for grounding. Each corner should be grounded. Perhaps your building is on top of bedrock and/ or not grounded correctly.

Be sure that you have number 14 ground wire from each module to a grounding block.
That grounding block should have a number 6 wire to building steel.
Use a multimeter to measure source voltage for the IPO.
Drop the neutral lead and touch to ground block and take measurement.
Voltage measurements should be no more than 1/2 volt from each other.

Just wondering, you said you replace the modules? Do you mean the modules are totally dead after the lightning strike? Or they have just lost their software? If it is lost software, why don't you just re-flash?

I agree with amriddle, I had the same issue long long time ago, after many tests all was solved by replacing old existing cables (running on the previous system) and correctly grounding both main unit and expansion modules.

Tried reloading software but only get.....

TFTP POLL FAILED......

Units won't start reloading software.

One unit says......TFTP POLL SENT......but the unit never starts loading????

I just looked at the modules. I might have found the issue........ I see that the expansion modules have a ground terminal/screw and are grounded, but the 412 does not. Could this be the problem? how should I ground the 412?

The same way as the modules.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!
