i have a server that has a raid 5, and i added 2 disks to the array. the raid sees it just fine and windows sees it as new unalocated space on the primary disk. How do i make those partions part of the rest of the partion.

It wont let me make it a dynamic disk either??

Primary Partition is weird in WIndows 2003..I haven't quite figured a way to extend it either.. same boat.the default size on install of 4 Gigs is way off.. even with just the operating system and Documents and settings..which is a bugger to move to a different location... if I was installing again I would make a OS/Primary Partition of closer to 10 GB... first time installing WIndows 2003 I didn't know any better.. and 4 GB sounded ok.. boy was I wrong once you install IIS and all these things that even though you have relocated Program files via the registry want to store things in the primary partition under Program files/Common Files..

I'm a little confused, are you using a Hardware RAID solution and if so who is the vendor and model number. If it is Hardware RAID there would be no reason to convert it to a dymanic disk. I do know that some Hardware RAID solutions do allow you to expand the RAID 5 set. More info please...

If you are using Software RAID via MS OS, last I checked you would not be able to expand an exitsing RAID 5 set.

Also, question for everone reading this post, I don't believe that Microsoft even supports the OS on a Software RAID 5 set? Anyone know if this is still true?

THIS IS A HARDWARE RAID ON A ARECA CONTROLLER, IT LETS ME EXPAND THE VOLUME JUST FINE. BUT IN WINDOWS IT SHOWS THE EXTRA SPACE AS UNALOCATED SPACE ON THE SYSTEM DRIVE. BASICALY WHAT I NEED TO KNOW IS WHAT SOFTWARE DO I NEED TO CHANGE THE UNALOCATED SPACE ON THE SYSTEM DRIVE TO PART OF THE SYSTEM VOLUME

You cannot make a boot partition a dynamic disk. See MS KB 325857. Also this article explains how to expand the boot partition during a WS2K3 upgrade. Good luck.
