I've been asked to look into how to expand our M8X24 system. I know nothing about phone systems but this is what's going on. We have maxed out our lines at 16 and need to expand to 24, but everyone who knew anything about the phone system no longer works here. So we don't know the passwords. I know I have to do any administrative work from an M7310, does it matter where it's located since that phone has been moved about a month ago. Also, is there a way to reset the system so that we can enter a new password without knowing the old password. And finally, how do we expand to 24 lines?

Thanks

If you have 16 lines now, you can expand to 20 real easy, and more depending on what type of expansion cartridge you have. Sounds like you have at least 1 slot for a trunk cartridge left. Do you know if you have a 2 port or 6 port expansion cart?
No, it does not matter where your 7310 is located.
And, yes, passwords can be reset, but which password are you talking about.

Hmm, I'm starting to understand this a little more. I really don't know much about this system. I went to the phone box and there are two additonal boxes, one marked M12x0 and one marked 0X16. Does this tell me what type of expansion cart I have? How can I find out? From your reply it sounds like I don't need a password to expand the system, I just need to get hold of an expansion cartridge (where would I get that) and get into the box somehow. Sorry I'm so green at this. Is there anywhere I could find diagrams or documents to tell me what these things are?

If you ofen the front door on the one labeled M12x0, hopefully you will find there is 1 slot available to add 1 additional trunk cart. just like the 2 that are already in it. That will give you 4 additional lines.

Then open the door on the right side/front of main KSU. Inside, on the right hand side, you should see a board that has either 2 ports, or 6 ports on the front of it. That is your expansion cart.
Let us know what you find.
