We added another Compaq 18GB drive with raid5 and it said something about it would need to delete current info on existing drive before it would add the new drive. Isn't there any other way off adding this drive without having to reload it? We have a smart array 4200.
If all else fails, I guess we could just make it a whole other drive letter, but we would prefer it be part of the C: .
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks, Tracy

I can't recall right now, but I think the 4200 controller supports extension of a logical drive. If that holds true then add your drive and in the ACU(Array Configuration Utility) you will see a new physical disk. Add that to the existing array, expansion will start automatically, after which highlight the drive and click extension. The logical drive Raid 5 should increase in size and incorporate the new space, which inturn should make your C:\ drive bigger in the O.S. I hope your using Winnt4.0 because Win2000 doesn't support extension.

So first find out if your 4200 controller supports extension, second verify what operating system you're using. Because, if any of these criteria don't match up, the whole extension is out of question.

Good luck, and if you have anymore questions don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you for the info. That answered my question then. We are running windows 2000. BUMMER.!!!!.

Thanks sunny79.
