I'm a bit new to using Exmerge. So please bear with me. I have a Exchange 2003 setup and when I run Exmerge, everything looks good and it creates the PST file. The problem I'm having is that I can not open the PST file once it's created. Outlook will say "File access is denied. You do not have the permission required to access the file (then the file location). I don't quite understand this, I have admin rights, I have full rights on all mailboxes. What am I missing?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Chad

I had this problem on a .pst file that was burned to a CD. The issue was that the properties of the actual .pst file were set to read only. Right click on the pst file -> properties -> uncheck the read only attribute, try again. If the file is on a CD you won't be able to do this. Copy the file to the local hard drive and try again.

Hope this resolves the issue...

Thanks for the response, but that's not it. File is on a hard drive and it is not flagged as read only.

Thanks 58sniper, I believe that I have set up an account like described in you link, but I will recreate it just to make sure. The file is over 400mb, so it must contain something.

Well, I created a new account and made sure that all the rights were assigned properly, but still no joy.

There has to be something I'm missing.

Must be the NTFS rights, I moved the file from the download location to a different drive and it worked. Still don't understand, since I have rights to that share I created for the .pst downloads. Oh well, at least I can get to it now, just another step to take to move the file once created.

Thanks 58sniper for you response,
Chad

Curious, you are using Exmerge to reimport the data right?

Or did you use Exmerge for archival purposes. From your posts it sounds like you are opening the PST in Outlook.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Yes, I had to go into the file to remove a corrupted email that kept screwing with my nightly backup. I opened the file up in outlook, took care of what I needed to, then re-imported the file back to the mailstore. All is well now.

FYI, using ExMerge you have the ability to specifically remove select messages from the Info Store. By using selection criteria you can choose to have ExMerge remove messages from the mailbox without the need to use Outlook or even having to reimport the rest of the mailbox back in.

I hope you find this post helpful.

I'm still learning the tool, it is very useful. I'll have to play with it some more when I have time.

Thanks for the comments Mark,

Chad
