Hello, I just recently this forum and it contains a wealth of knowledge. I am coming to all you experts for help.

We recently hire an executive assistant and I have it set up right now so when external number calls the boss it will Ring&Appear on the assistant's set and appear only on boss' set.

I want it so that if the assistant missed the call, it would go straight to boss's voice mail.

Here is the question / problem I discover. If Boss's line is set to appear only then the call will go to assistant's voicemail instead. But if the line is set to appear and ring then it will go to boss's email which is what we want.

So is there any way to have the line appear only on Boss's phone but any missed call would still go to boss' voicemail?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

No
You cant expect a call to ring at only one set then go to another users mailbox, would have to ring at both same time.

Normally the assistant has an answer key (ANSWER DN) assigned to their set so when the boss's phone rings so will the assistants.
Problem is you dont want the boss's phone to ring period.

Only work around I can think of if you dont do the Answer DN method:
Assistant: record a message stating "You have reached Jane Doe, executive assistant to Mr Boss, to leave a message for Mr Boss please press *2XX , to leave a message for myself please wait for the tone.
Note - By pressing Star then the bosses ext # it will ring the set first then dump to bosses mailbox based on the CFNA setting.

or

Hunt Group
Assign the line to a Hunt Group
Add only the Assistant as a member
Overflow the Hunt Group to the bosses DN

or

Does the boss have a second phone at the round table or couch?

Thanks Curlycord. That's some good suggestion.

But right now, it is ringing both at the same time. It's just assistant's phone actually has the ring sound and the Boss's juts appears, so technically the call is still hitting boss's phone.

I am testing the Answer DN now. it's a good solution, we are sticking with it temporarily but the only downside is that anyone that dials the boss's internal extension directly will result in the ringing of assistant's phone

then
" It's just assistant's phone actually has the ring sound and the Boss's juts appears,"

They contradict each other.
If it says Appear Only then it does NOT ring.
A call must ring at a set before any rules made by the set will take place.

Use the Hunt Group method to avoid the internal call issue.
