execute exe file in server

how can i execute an exe file in server using vbscript(server side) or javascript(client side)? i am passing a parameter and wants to retrieve the return value.

ex. validate.exe samplefield
this returns a string value.

i cant find the exact thread for the WScript, but i'll look for that keyword in the reference.
