Excluding a line from night service

Merlin Legend R2 processor, key system mode: the last of four LS lines (804) into a 408 module is used for the fax machine; the fax extension is set to auto line select to 804 but is not set as a fax line in 'options' in order to prevent fax activity from setting the MWIs on the (ATL) phones. When night service is set, the fax line is answered by the auto attendant which is _bad_. How can I exclude this line from night service in this scenario?

Thanks.

Look at the night service group and see if the lines are assigned.

I had tried to assign lines to the night service group but winspm gives me the error sound and refuses to do it. The processor identifies as "Legend 2.1 V 4.0". From the Rel 5.0 System Programming Manual:

"A calling group can also be assigned to a Night Service group. This applies only to Release 2.0 or later.

Beginning with Release 4.1 this option allows the system manager to assign outside lines to Night Service groups in addition extensions and calling groups for coverage after hours."

In the past this site had the fax line designated as such and the MWI lights weren't working so they never had an issue with fax activity setting them; now that the lights work the line had to be removed from 'fax' assignment so the night service for it is hosed.

Any other ideas short of processor upgrade?

Thanks

You should try to unassign the fax line from the night service group. Can you print night service group and post here? Also post general trunk. Perhaps the fax line has principle user assigned.

Here is the night service group:

If I could remove MWI notification from STA 10 and 11 when using the second 'fax' config above, the night service would work. I could not remove those on several attempts in the past. I would like to try again with a step-by-step suggestion on the procdure that might work.

Thanks again.

Have you checked to see in voicemail if line 4 is assigned to the auto-attendant. That could be why it is going to voicemail at night (when it picks up immediate vs. delayed during the day).

I think you already found the answer above
The processor identifies as "Legend 2.1 V 4.0".

From the Rel 5.0 System Programming Manual:

Beginning with Release 4.1 this option allows the system manager to assign outside lines to Night Service groups

You can't exclude a particular line from night service with that old of a processor. Either don't run the line through the system, or put an automatic Fax/Voice switch ahead of the system, taking the fax off as a system port and wire directly to the switch.

That explains why there is no line entry for the ns group. Good info.
