Hello all,
I am attempting to gather some good data on a 'typical', relative as that term is, Exchange environment that folks are running.
Is they majority <50GB, <100GB, <200Gb, >300GB, etc.

Any info you could give would be greatly appreciated. Looking for SQL DB sizes also.
Thanks in advance!

MN - you'll have to guestimate based upon how many users you have and how much Exchange space you want to allocate to each user. Then double that ;-).

We run our server on a 350GB setup, but I have over 300 users and we decided to allow them 500MB/mailbox. And don't forget to install Enterprise, no worries on mail store limits.

I'm Certifiable, not certified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

Hi

I totally agree with lander215 (on his first comment espically) however when i look at possible sizes i do the same as lander215 however i add some more for example, 10 users with a 10mb mail box i would mean 100mb database size, for additional capacity double that then add 50%. The reason i say this is that it is allowing not only for users that use larger databases but also for new users. With regards to the 16gb limit in exchange 2000 standard it would be good to say that ur disk space should be at least 16gb (cost of drives these days justifies far larger than this anyway) if you have opted for the enterprise version where the database size is in effect unlimited (4TB i think) it would be reasonable to say always plan for the worst and you can never have too much disk space

hope this helps

Excellent stuff guys, thanks.
I am trying to convince my test guys that a 10MB DB size does not make sense to test on considering the real life environments out there. Comments form folks like you help my credibility.
I am looking for all DB also so if you have any insight to things like SQL, Sybase, DB2, Informix, even Lotus, I would appreciate it. If you have the time that is.
Thanks again!

Hey Lander215... is it possible you could email me about how you backup your huge exchange store? I am trying to find the best way to back our 60gig store... and the time frames are not calulating correctly.
