Just recently numerous clients have been receiving messageboxes stating:

"Outlook is retrieving data from the Microsoft Exchange Server "MailServer". You can cancel thh request or minimize this message to the Windows taskbar until Outlook closes the message automatically."

This has never happened before, and I can't find anything in the event logs.

Any ideas?

it is lag with exchange. One big reason is many people using the system to make requests at once. Another is each person having a lot of email in their inbox, deleted, sent, etc.

I only have about 10-15 at a time in my inbox, others I see have about 1000. They get that message all the time (requesting data) I don't.

Yes, as your organization grows and your users mail boxes grow, you will see this more and more.

We have everyone set-up in "cached mode" with Outlook 2003 and that seems to have cleared this issue up for us. We have nearly 400 users world wide.

Good luck!

Usually caused by disk lag. We've covered this loads of times in the Ex 2000 and 2003 forums and there are loads of checks. My fave is to check IOPS first to give you a heads up on the disks. Search those forums first.

Thanks for all the replies! I did find a troubleshooting guide for this very issue from MS. The problem I'm having is that the perfmon counters (MSexchangeIS -Rpc Averaged Latency, MSexchangeIS -Requests, etc.) are nowhere to be found. I'm expecting them to be in perfmon in the drop down under "performance object," but that's not the case. Any ideas?

Thanks again,

Jay
