Exchange Tasks missing? 1

After installing our first Exchange Server 2003 on new hardware, I can start "Active Directory Users and Computers" on that machine. When I right-click on a user, I see "Exchange Tasks..." listed. When I look at the properties of a user, I see all the tabs related to Exchange.

If I start "Active Directory Users and Computers" over on our domain controller, when I right-click on a user I do NOT have "Exchange Tasks..." listed and when I look at properties of a user, the Exchange related tabs are NOT there.

My question is: Should I see these things when running "Active Directory Users and Computers" on the domain controller?

I just set it all up and if there is something wrong, I'd like to know about it now.

Both the domain controller and the Exchange server are running W2k3 server with SP1 installed.

Thanks in advance for the help!

You may not have the correct rights on your server. Compare the 'Member Of' for Administrator (or whatever you log in with) on both servers.

MoaTad - Don't worry about it. I do not see exchange related items anywhere but through ADUnC on the Exchange server. However, a word of caution. When adding new users, if you want to create a mail box for them right away, you need to create the user through the ADUnC on the Exchange server. If you do it on a DC, the user will be created but then you will need to go to the Exchange server to create the mailbox.

Thanks for the feedback. Actually I was logged in to both computers as the Domain admin, and that account has Exchange Full Administrative rights.

There may be some other setting that I could have to make the options appear on the domain controller, but as long as nothing is "broken" with the way it is now, I don't mind going to the exchange box to create my users and their mailboxes.

Guys, you need to install the Exchange tools on each DC. Insert the Exchange CD in the DC and run through a setup just as if you were installing Exchange. Eventually you will see a choice (on the bottom) to just install the Exchange tools. Without this loaded you can't see the Exchange tabs in AD Users & Computers.

I hope you find this post helpful.

I just posted this for another user and it might give you more detail on installing...

Try launching Setup.hta from the root of the CD. Then click Exchange Deployment Tools and the bottom choice should be to just install the management tools.

I hope you find this post helpful.
