Heyas,

Our email server currently goes down about once every 4 months at the moment, while we work on the issue does anybody have any suggestions/ experience on ways to monitor the status of an email server?

Pinging the Server itself results in a successful ping since the basic system is working, just not exhange services. Ideally I would like it to send me an email to tell me its broken, but of course it can't if it's down ;)

Does anyone know of any methods or 3rd party software that might do what I am after?

Thanks again, Russell.

Quest has a GREAT thing called SPOTLIGHT. You can see EVERYTHING that is going on with the server. They have it for SQL and EXCHANGE. We love it.

Hi,

One of the better products on the market for server monitoring is 'Nightwatch'. Check out for more detailed information. It really is good stuff. However, it isn't cheap but it might help you focus in on what you're looking for.

Download the trial version to see it in action.

Regards

Try
They have Website Monitoring for Downtime
- Alerts you when your site goes down
- Multiple contacts can be alerted
- Get statistics on reponsiveness

You can have it check for the mail/SMPT server, as well as FTP, HTTP and a lot of other stuff. It's free if you only need it once every 3 hours. More often costs cash.

Thankyou kindly, I'll take a look at this too :)
