We are running SBS 4.5 w/ exchange server 5.5. We have a soho-3 as our firewall appliance. I have created access rules to permit send email (smtp) source WAN * destination LAN 10.0.1.250 (email servers ip address).

Inbound mail is not reaching the exchange server. Outbound mail is fine.

Network > NAT is set as standard. Is there something I have over looked?

maybe something is wrong with exchange? Try to telnet into the exchange server on port 25 externally and internally.

I can not telnet to the exchange server? The server is listening to port 24. i have an anti-spam app (xwall) on port 25 that is filtering mail to the server. Could that be impacting the connections?

sure could.

Can you at least telnet into the xwall server externally? If so you know that the problem is most likely with the xwall app forwarding mail to the exchange server.

Is xwall running on a separate server?

You could also try temporarily bypassing it and just forward mail to the exchange server to verify exchange is working correctly. Just make sure you have everything running on the correct ports.

Xwall is running on the same server as exchange. It also the DC for the domain. That is the nature of small business server.

We are planning on scrapping xwall when we migrate from SBS. Looks like it would be best to accelerate that move.

Thanks for the insite
