Exchange Server and DNS/Active Directory

I am setting up a small office using window 2000 server with pro
workstations. I am going to run 3 servers. One for DHCP, one file server,
one Exchange. I currently have the DHCP server running Active Directory
(where I had to set up a DNS service). I am unfamiliar with DNS because
our ISP had previously provided it (we weren't using Server/Active Directory
at that time). What do I need to set up DNS and is this required for
Exchange 2000?

If I am not providing enough info, please let me know.

Setup a forward lookup zone.

Point only to yourself for DNS on the adapter.

Then setup forwarders.

You can just use your dns for internal needs and let your isp handle the internet for you.

Thanks for the info guys. One more question...
Because I am new to this DNS stuff. How do I set up and forward lookup zone. I have worked myself through some of the wizard but ende up backing out when I was not quite sure what to do--the same with the reverse lookup. Also, when we are referring to internal dns, is this the service that is installed when you are installing AD via the wizard. (I was prompted to set up DNS at that time) Is it necessary to have internal DNS?

Just say new zone. And give it your domain name. tek-tips.com for example. Dan
