Exchange Server 5.5 rejecting messages based on size 1

My Exchange Sever (5.5) is replying to outside users that their message is over size limits. We do not have a size limit set to the best of my knowledge. I checked the IMS general tab, and it is set to no limit. Returned emails state that the size limit is 2097152 bytes . How or where can I address this issue ---

Any help would be really appreciated -- we are novices at trying to 'maintain' this server.

Each recipient can have their own mailbox limit. Have a look at the Limits tab for a recipient's properties.

The IMS limit is a default that is applied to new recipients, or the rule applied if a recipient's Limit is set to 'server default'.

Thanks Gryffin --

All recipients are set to server default. I spot checked about ten users (mine included -- as I am getting the message when I send from my home email) all are set to unlimited. We recently added a Mcafee anti-spam device, but am able to use smtp & pop3 to route email through it (very large but not going through the exchange server) without a problem . I am baffled.

Message size limits can be placed in any or all of the following locations:

- The mailboxes themselves
- The Internet Messaging Service
- The Message Transfer Agent (This might be where yours is!)

Hope this helps!

Hey,

Great tip, this was always driving me crazy, never thought to look at the MTA limit.

Duh!
