Good day everyone,
I have been battling an exhcnage server that was sending out spam for about a week now. I recreated a new virtual SMTP server on the exchange box which took care of the spam going out, however I am no longer recieving any email?
We can send out fine and internal works fine but I can not get any mail sent to our exchange server.
Is this an SMTP issue or something else.

Everything on the new virtual SMTP server is exactly the same as the original one, I don't know what else could have changed.

Please help, I am at wy witts end with this and losing patience with exchange very quickly.

Thanks in advance

1. I would check if Anonymous authentication has been enabled, which is under properties of SMTP Virtual server
2. Under Properties of SMTP connector - Address space Tab, do you have * there?

Thanks.

Anonymous authentication is disabled and * is in the address space.

as soon as I enable anonymous access my queue fills up with the spam again and I stil am not receiving any mail?

SMTP mail handling is anonymous by nature. If you don't have anonymous authentication enabled, you'll never get email. You need to look at the reason why you're getting those queues filling up. Enable the IMF, along with Connection, Sender, and Recipient Filtering, and tarpitting.

Where do I go to enable all of this?
I know I should know that but please refresh my memory.

Thanks Sniper, I enabled the filters and that seems to have stopped the spam going out and I am again happily receiving emails.
