The client wants to connect to their isp and pull down email using the pop3 service on the exchange then distribute it to ll the clients. The service has been enabled and running. The pop3 connector has been configured to pull down email per each individual client. The settings tab for the email download from the isp has been configured to pull mail down every fifteen minutes: Here are the settings on the properties tab of the pop3 connector for each of the individual users:

email server: mail.mydomainname.com
username: user@mydomainname.com
password:xxxx
exchange mailbox: user

The smtp connector has also been configured to deliver mail to the isp's smart host using its ip address. [66.xxx.xxx.xxx] and the exchange server has been set as the default smtp virtual server.
The outlook client on each of the individual machines has also been configured to use the exchange. Now for soem reason the server is not able to pull the mail from the isp. Internally, the mail is working from client to client. My question is; do I need to change the pop3 information from mail.mydomainname.com to the isp's incoming pop3 server? remember these settings work fine when configuring outlook for a normal pop3 webmail connection.

yes, you need to specify to use the name of the POP3 server.

I hope you find this post helpful.

when specified, the name of the pop3 server doesn't work on the exchange, but on a normal outlook client it does and you can be able to go out and retrieve mail. The isp has a different pop3 server that they use for the general pop3 mail connections different from the domain name they assigned me.

If you are using the POP3 connector from SBS, it should use all the same settings that the client PCs would use.

If it will not resolve properly then you should investigate your DNS. Make sure your server NIC has only listed itself as a DNS server. In DNS, make sure that the ISP DNS are listed on the forwarders tab.

Lastly, verify that your Internet Connection and mail are configured properly by rerunning the Internet Connection Wizard from the SBS To Do list. This should walk you through setting up the POP3 connector.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
