I backed up Information store of exchange server 2003 with windows 2003 server NTbackup utility, whe i tried restoring the backup, i get this error message when i try to upload the data from the tape "bckup Device Error".

Need more information. Have you made any changes? That error usually means Windows cannot see the backup device.

I checked d drive, windows 2003 server sees the device,is not like Database upload does not start,it starts loading to some extent before giving the error.

The backup with its date is seen on the restore windows, but when the backup catalogue is selected,or double clicked to upload DB it gives the error.

I have checked device manager, even changed the drive, but sill gets same error "backup Device Error".

It is a HP Ultrium 460 External tape drive. What actually fails is the backup catalogue, trying to Load catalogue/exchange database, brings up the error.

ok, tape drive. If this was Backup Exec I'd say recreate the catalogue but I don't know if you can do that in ntbackup.
