i've finally after a couple of months managed to sort all my back up problems, and sods law, i can't restore from the backups now.

I'm doing a brick level backup, when i try to restore mailboxes, the restore starts finds the session seems to be doing a restore, disconnects from the media and then goes on hold. when i check the mailboxes nothings restored if i change the job from hold to ready it does the same thing over again.

Any ideas would be appreciatted

What ARCserve version + build are you on ??
In the directory where the Exchange agent resides there is a log called dbaxchg2.log. Are there any messages to be found there ??

regards

Hi
what is the version of the exchnage client installed? Outlook xp is not supported, you need to install outlook client.
This problem caused by MAPI confilict so whenever you try to restore the mailbox MAPI is sending the wrong info to exchnage agent,I have experianced this problem with restoring public folder brick level.
you need to right click on exchnage brick level before running the restore job and select the 3rd option I can't remember the optopn exactly the option is to overwrite ....

Also the make sure the Mailbox is already there before trying restore

Thanks for the feedback guys

The exchange log doesn't show anything and the build is 1086, everytime i take it up to 1100 with sp4 i experience problems, so if i can i would like to leave as is.

mohamdr, i am using Outlook XP as the outlook client but i'm not too sure what you mean by right clicking the brick level before a back up, i'm anxious to try your sugestion if you could elaborate a little on how i could do it.

cheers

1- you need to install SP4 on all machines having BEB components
2-There is also brick level patch in support.cai.com in Arcserve you need to apply it.

3-Uninstall Outloolk XP (XP is not supported I have been told by CA technical Support)

4-Install outlook 2000

5-when you right click on brick level backup there will be a popup window to select the way you want to restore the brick level,I can't expline more because I don't have it installed on my machine at the moment.

Note:Maybe the problem will be resolved when you go to outlook 2000

Stat1c,
He is bothered because he want to restore the mailbox sepraatly not restoring the whole IS.

I know there are some component which doing the same function but this somthing you purhcased and spend money and you need to utilize it.

Question - Are you running Exchange 5.5 or 2000
If you are running exchange 2000 you shouldn't have any MAPI client installed. ie do not install Outlook (any version) as this can cause issues. Please see for more info.

Are the backups/restores local to the exchange machine or remote?

Thanks for all the help guys,

I do have Outlook XP installed on the Exchange server and it is exchange 2000.

I have it on there as i manage this server remotely most of the time and it can come in handy to be able to view peoples mailboxes when they have a problem.

I was just about to uninstall Outlook to see if it would cure my problem but decided to try one last time, i probably should have done this long ago but arcserve has really fried my brain over the last few weeks.

What i done was a restore of the mailbox i needed but instead of restoring it to its original location, i chose alternate location and then chose the path to the mailbox.

Arcserve then restored the mailbox. For the first time in god knows how long i've actually got working backups of my exchange, i think i'll take a week of now and get hammered.

If you guys know of any issues doing it this way might cause i would love to here them, even though it would burst the happy bubble i'm in.

Again thanks for the help
