Can anyone recommend a way of counting the total amount of messages stored on a single Exchange Server. I know that in Exchange Admin you can view mailbox resources but there's no way of exporting that data.

Maybe a third party reporting tool that does this and more?

Thanks for any help you can give.

In Exchange Admin - display the mailbox resources for the Private Information Store and from the File menu, select "Save Window Contents ..." This will allow you to save to a .csv file.
Open the .csv file in Excel and sum the "Total number of Items" column.
That's how I would do it (although there may well be a better way).

Thanks - that's very helpful - I didn't know about that option.

If you are backing up your Exchange box using an Exchange agent, it tells you in there too...
