Hello all;

I am having an issue getting my exchange to send email through my ISP. i have searched everywhere for a solution that seems to not that hard.. except or me.

I have a domain registered say ETL.com My mx records point to mail.etl.com.

My ISP stated that i must use Exchange and send through port 1025 SMTP for this to work. I cannot send nor recieve anything. At one point i could send but not recieve. not sure what has changed. I have a Virtual smtp server and an smtp connector that uses Smarthost to send mail to the ISP's server.

Can anyone offer some help on how this should be connected correctly? I am at a loss as to how to get my exchange server to send and recieve all email through my ISP. (POP3 and SMTP)

thanks in advance

No, port 1025 is allowed through the firewall... interestingly enough, i get different messages in different scenarios such as:

did not reach the following recipient(s):

joret@tors.com on Thu, 24 Aug 2006 03:52:43 -0400
The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.
<etl.com #5.1.1>

This is a new message that i get when i send out of my doman through my ISP. I am not sure whether this is making it to tors.com and not being found or on my Exchange server and not being found.

any suggestions?

thanks

I was successful in connecting with mail.tors.com via a telnet session. So the Mail server is responding.

When I tried to validate the joret mailbox on the server I was presented with the following:

Attempting MX connection to the host directly-->tors.com

Waiting for server ready message...
220-orion.anonydns.com ESMTP Exim 4.52 #1 Thu, 24 Aug 2006 16:23:53 +0000

250 orion.anonydns.com Hello ******************

221 orion.anonydns.com closing connection

So I can't tell if this is a valid user on their system. I would at this point assume that the username does not exist.

Sorry bro, that was a fictional domain i created... it just so happened to be real :)

anways, still trying to figure this out. i guess the first question is do i require an SMTP CONNECTOR to do this? or is the default SMTP server settings enough for this?

The default SMTP virtual server is fine. A connector would be used to connect to other sites or other mail organizations.

I re-read your discription and I have a question. You are fowarding to a smart host. In the configuration to foward to the smart host you are using the IP Address of that host, correct? And the IP Address is encased in brakets?
Should look like: example - [10.0.0.1]
I have herd of issues when the IP address of the smarthost is not encased in brakets.
