Hi,

I have recently installed Windows 2000 advanced server and Exchange 2000 server both SP3. We have 10 other computers on the network which are win 2000 or XP. The server also has an ADSL connection. After setup we have the following problem:

Mail can be sent by internal user to external addresses succesfully however mail is not received by users from internal or external sources. I have setup reverse dns on the server and when i do nslookup get the following response:
>propac.co.uk
server: propack1.propac.co.uk
address: 192.168.181.253

name: propac.co.uk
addresses: 192.168.181.253, 217.34.37.208

and for reverse
>217.34.37.208
server: propack1.propac.co.uk
address: 192.168.181.253

**** propack1.propac.co.uk cant find 217.34.37.208: non existent domain

Can anyone offer some advice ?

Thank you

I have sorted the NSlookup problem, i had not put a proper pointer record in the reverse lookup zone for 217.34.37.208, however still no email getting to users

You have to have a MX record with your ISP that lets the world know where your email server is at.

bobsa30:

I checked your DNS server of ns1.vi.net and all looks good. However your pointer record shows this:
217.34.37.208 PTR record: host217-34-37-208.in-addr.btopenworld.com. [TTL 86400s] [A=217.34.37.208]

I can not ping you. Here are the results (From Washington D.C.)

Also, have you verified that your firewall isn't blocking port 25 SMTP?

Thanks guys,

My ISP has set up an MX record previously, I had disconnected the server from the internet last night and shut it down until this morning so the ping etc wouldn't work. As far as mail, there is still no internal email and no external incoming email. help
