With the following Errors:

Event ID's 9808, 5000, 1121, 125, 8197, 7001, 7024.
Errors 1053, 0x80004005, 0x8004011d, 0x80041001, and "service Specific Error" 0

Reinstalled MS Ex2000, and SP3, ran eseutil /p -- still NG.

Been drilling down the threads for two days, no hits.

Help.

I have a nifty little program that will restore your exchange databases if need be. For now, if you have re-installed exchage, the problem may be deeper than exchange. Have you tried restoring from backup? Re-installing Server? (drastic, but may have to)

I will look into this more. I love troubleshhoting as I run into problems everyday. Keep me informed.

Let me know about the database.

Kevin

Restored from backup, repaired and restored edb's (via eseutil) -- still same old, same old.

should I back up the edb's again before reinstallation of Win2K Server, or start over with the most pristine of slates? (BTW, this is an educational/lab environment, very low traffic, and not too many mailboxes -- so we're not talking about mass quantities of data).

But, trying to move the mail boxes won't work, because the info store wont start, so I can't remove E2K, 'cause there are mailboxes, and I cant move the mailboxes, 'cause (wait, wasn't I just here???) . . .

What size is your priv.edb? Make sure you are either under the 16G limit if running Exchange or you are installing the Enterprise version if your edb is OEER 16G

The .edb files are orders of magnitude smaller than that -- as I mentioned this is a LOW traffic lab/educational environment (which is isolated from the rest of the world, too -- )

Still always get the error that the service did not start in a "timely fashion", along with all the event IDs and errors in my original post.

Can you mount the Information store? Does it dismount right away? In the event log it should pretty quickly (once you mount it and it dismounts) give you some errors. Is your Global catalog server available? This is by default the first AD server in your network. If you have taken this down the Global catalog server will not be able to service the account authorizations.

try reinstalling Exchange with the /disasterrecovery switch and restoring your mailboxes. That way the Guids in the AD repository will be the same as the ones on the exchange server.
