I am trying to implement Exchange 2000 on our W2K domain. We have about 6 DCs on different sites and they replicate fine. I have been given a dedicated server with a large amount of disk space and would like to install Exchange on this server. I have run forestprep and domainprep on the first DC and they complete OK.
Am I right in saying that when I install Exchange that it installs throughout the AD on ALL our servers? Can the mailboxes be stored on a single server? Does my new server have to have AD installed. (have read contradicting views).

Also, our domain is behind a firewall and we need to access our emails from a DMZ to the outside world. How can we do the replication etc across a firewall?

Any help greatly appreciated.
Mike

I can tell you categorically that you must have AD installed on the same machine otherwise Exchange wont work as it integrates heavily with Active Directory.

Yes, but actually, it's the ForestPrep and DomainPrep portions of the setup that extend the AD Schema.

If you mean does it need to be a DC, no.

Lastly, what kind of box do you have sitting in the DMZ?
