I am running BENT 7.0 on NT 4.0 SP6a server on the PDC. I am a single domain with a seperate server for Exchange 5.0. Backups have run successfully for the last year until I defragmented the Exchange databases. Prior to doing so, I ran a full backup of the Info. Store and the Exch. Directory. The backup completed successfully. Since then, the backup of the ED and IS fail, return error message "access is denied". Also in the event log is this message:

An error occurred while preparing Microsoft Exchange Server \\EXCHSRV\Microsoft Exchange Information Store to back up database Exchange MDB Database.
Error code: 0xC8000230
Error message: The database missed a previous full backup before the incremental backup.

I've reinstalled the BENT software and still no luck connecting. Has anyone experienced trouble such as this? It's been 5 days now that no backup has run on Exchange so I'm getting a little nervous! I plan on migrating the network to Win2K, Exchange 2K this summer and will go with an newer version of BackupExec, but need a fix for this until then. Veritas will not help, as the version is too old. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm also getting this event logged on the Exchange server:

The description for Event ID ( 57920 ) in Source ( Backup Exec ) could not be found. It contains the following insertion string(s): 0xC80001F9, Backup is already active. , \\EXCHSRV, Exchange DS Database.

Erick,

What's the BE job log say? Have you changed user accounts or passwords recently??

The best thing you can do right now is do a backup on NT Backup not Seagate. NT 4.0 came with it's own backup software. Do a run on that first, then goto MS Knowledge base and type in Event ID#57920 in the search line, there is a peice about your situation.

I'm getting a similar problem use Seagate BE V8.5, the job fails repeatadly and within the job log I get this message when trying to backup any element of exchange, and yeah I have the exchange agent installed.

"The Exchange Store service is not responding. Backup set aborted"

Its really narking me, for the past few years I havent used Backup Exec and used ArcServe on the NT Systems, thats a great bit of software and had no problems like this one.

I ran a full backup using NT Backup and the following night, ran a full backup using BackupExec and it worked. Thanks for your replies!
