I am attempting to set up Exchange chat service and have followed all directions including mapping the proto service through DNS to the proper computer.
I run the chat client setup which installs and older version of windows messenger on the client computer.
At this point i go through the messenger setup which is relativly self explanatory and has me connect to the exchange server and pass it a username, password and domain.
The problem occurs when i actually attempt to connect and get the error message "The person logged onto this computer does not have permission to use the specified email address".
This has become an infuriating message as I am loged onto the computer with the domain account that has the email address and I have activated the chat service for this user within active directory.
Am I missing something.
Any help would be appreciated

Minoad- In fear of insulting you and suggesting something you more than likely looked at -

Have you enabled Instant Messaging through EXCHANGE TASKS on the users?

Right click on the user(s) one at a time or CTRL and select each user then right click - slect Exchange Tasks - select Enable Instant Messaging and follow the prompts.

Again - sorry if this is obvious or you have already done it.

Yes, i have gone through the standard troubleshooting, including _rvp DNS enteries, IIS settings, Security and AD. I am at an absolute loss.

Maybe im wrong but doesnt the user need 'log on locally' rights to the exchange server?
