We keep recieving emails with attachments that cannot be formatted correctly by our Exchange Server. The attachments are commonly Word. The text of the email comes through fine, but the attachment is just gibberish.
Any ideas please about how to get our attachments? [sig][/sig]

First question: Where is the email originating and where is it being received? This is a common problem when a user on an Exchange 4.0 server sends an attachment to one on a 5.0/5.5 server. See MS "Q" article Q182307.

Second question: What is the origin and destination of the Word attachment? If the origin is a Macintosh Exchange Client and is sent through an Exchange 4.0 server to an Exchange 5.0 server, the result will be giberish. See MS "Q" article Q166531.

If the sender is using a POP3 client, like Eudora, the attachment may not be decoded. See MS "Q" article Q166546.

Next question: Is the non-attachment portion of the message in Chinese? If so, the attachment will be garbled. See MS "Q" article Q155817.

Hello there
We are also having this problem but it is limited to emails from specific clients. We are using Exchange 5.5 and Outlook 2000. Attachments from these clients are corrupted - though not if the mail is sent on from a Hotmail address. I suppose this bears out the theory of the problem being connected to both the originating and the receiving servers. The big ? is, what can be done about it. Any ideas?
