Quite simply, I've a Dell 2800 Poweredge Server with an LTO 200/400 drive, which does a full backup everynight of itself, and a remote server (I've Exchange Agent and Remote agent installed).

Maybe a retarded question, but do I have to install _Something_ on the remote server for the backup to work? Or is everything done locally from my 2800? - ie. Backs up other servers on the network.

You need to install the Remote Agent on the remote server.

Does anyone know which firewall ports that have to be opened when using the remote agent across different LAN's?

That's a good question Scott. I've also other Servers on a different subnet that doesn't backup, but if I had the opportunity to, I would. (They take 2 hours to set up from scratch anyway since they're only a spam server and proxy server)

The Remote bit of the Veritas product doesn't like to look for other subnets I assume since I have no firewall between the two - just a router. So in answer to your question, Can the software even do what we want it to?
