Exchange Agent - E8604 Failed to start backup

Hi,
my backup server WinNT 4 SP6a with ArcServe2000 AE SP3.
my Exchange server (GAMA) is WinNt 4 SP6a w/ Exchange 5.5 SP4 and Norton Enterprise Antivirus 7.1/NAV for Exchange.

I have installed Client Agent for WinNT and Exchange Agent
(both SP3) on the exchange server.

All the servers belong to the same domain, service accounts are configured following manuals/release notes instruccions.

Jobs that "run now" works fine, i can backup Exch. IS,DS and
individual Maiboxes.

The problem are scheduled jobs, they backup DS, Mailboxes but IS fails (see below).

I hope anybody here can help me (CA tech support still does not respond to email messages)

Hi,

There are several things, which should be checked:

The EC 301 can appear, if a incremental backup is running and the Exchange server is configured with “circular logging”
Make sure in the Exchange Agent Options “Full Backup” is selected
If this is a scheduled differential or incremental rotation job, then please take a look at the following page, which describes this behavior.

Another reason could be, that there are patch files located in the mdbdata directory.

And last but not least, this could also a security problem:
Use the account which is specified for the System SA under “My Computer” in the B/U screen.
