I have a server running SBS 4.5 and raid 1: One of my drives went bad in my raid 1 configuration pulled bad drive out and changed jumpers and booted fine but exchange 5.5 wont start. Here is the error in the event viewer

Event log error is: THE microsoft exchange server database (EDB) COULD NOT BE INITIALIZED AND RETURNED ERROR 1811. UNRECOVERABLE ERROR THE DIRECTORY CANNOT CONTINUE.

Has anyone seen this and what should i do to recover this
is there a step by step q article on how to recover

Thanks

There's 2 tricks to try. But only if you have only one server in your site. If you have more than one, don't try this.

First the safest one. If it doesn't work, then post again and I'll give you the risky one.

Go to the exchsrvr\dsadata directory. Rename it to dsadata.old.
Create a new dsadata directory in the same place. Now copy the dir.edb file from dsadata.old into the new dsadata.
Try starting the directory. I'm guessing this won't work since the dir.edb file was probably shut down in an inconsistent state with the drive crash, but this procedure is harmless and has a chance.

If it doesn't work, delete the new dsadata folder and rename dsadata.old to dsadata and post back.

Oh...BTW...I'm assuming you have no backup of the directory?
