I am trying to setup OE to connect to my server from the WAN via a T1/dialup connection and I get this error:

"The host 'ABC@EFG.org' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'NACM Mail', Server: 'ABC@EFG.org', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D.

1) I have allowed a firewall rules to smtp and pop3 protocols
2) server name is correct
3) installed EFS from Chimera
4) enabled pop3 protocol in IMC exhcange admin tool

using internally I can connect using a internal IP but when the server name is used I can not connect

So!! why can I not connect using server name internally and externally. I am new to this so forgive me is question are rudimentary.

That sounds like a DNS issue.
You can try to ping the IP first, that will work, but then ping the server by name.
If that does not work, check your DNS settings. If the solution is here, let us know it was helpful so others can benefit from it as too

I have pinged both the IP and server name for my exchange box and they both came back with a successful TTL

I guess what I need to know now is how do I actually know I am entering in the correct name of my server.

For example: In outlook express if my server name is ABC_DEF.org should the incoming (POP3)be ABC_DEF.org and the outgoing (SMTP) be ABC_DEF.org as well.

I know there are several ways to enter this information in and I am using DNS as we talked about before but I would like to also know the simplest way to make this connection.

Incoming and outgoing are both the same indeed, unless you would send through another server, which is not the case here.
Bur in your first post, you mention using ABC@EFG and now you mention ABC_EFG , which one is it? If the answer is here, mark it, others can benefit from it too.
Free Tip: The F1 Key does NOT destroy your PC!

we had the same problem resolving host name of one specific email host, and I could not figure it out from DNS server. The turnaround is to specifiy the IP address in exchange server -> Internet Mail Services, choose connection, then specify domain to the IP address.

good luck
