I am running Echange 5.5 on a Win 2k server SP4. I am having a problem with some users not being able to send email to certain people at other organizations. Either it takes days to get there or not at all and it does not show up in their sent items. When I go into my Internet Mail Connector and look at the "Message awaiting delivery" queue I have a lot of emails sitting there because the host is unreachable. The detinations are different and affects only some users. The same user can send to other places with no problem. I am not a very savvy Exchange administrator because I inherited the responsibility so I am still learnig not to mention that one of the users having a problem is our CEO. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I am having the same issues, if you get a reply or figure it out, please let me know.

Host Unreachable" is usually a result when the destination host is offline or simply unreachable at the time.

Do you use a SMTP gateway to relay messages, such as a spam filter server, on Windows 2000 server? Check your event log if it has a lot of "The connection was dropped by the remote host." If so, check this link:

Thanks dennisbbb for the helpful info. We have since upgraded to Exchange 2003 and Active Directory. Although it comes with its own set of problems things are running a lot better. On a side note, its guys like you along with the rest of the guys and gals that answer posts on this website that make this an invaluable tool for people like me. Kudoos to all of you.
