Hi,

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to move the current exhange 5.5 *.edb files on the D: drive to another drive on the network. Like a Left Hand network storage device???

I am currently running very low on disk space on the mail server.

Thanks,

TL

Shortterm: Consider adding a harddisk to the server and run optimizer to move the edb's to this new disk.

Longterm: Upgrade to a faster and bigger server.

Putting these store files on network shares is just asking for lots of trouble.

Hi Dennisbbb,

Can it be done? We are have over 1TB of storage on our LeftHand Networks SAN storage? I think it iSCSI and IP SAN device.

We do plan to migrate away from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003, but not at the moment.

Thanks

TL

It can be done, however, due to the high i/o of Exchange server accessing these store files, you will run into problems, especially if you have a bad combination of a high number of users, a slow NAS, and a slow network link.

Run optimizer or edit the registry manually to change the path of these store files.

I will give that a try today. Found out that the server went down late last night due to disk space.

Since, it is running on a Windows 2000 Server wirh Exchange 5.5. I think I might be able to defrag the database "pub.edb" and priv.edb using an external USB drive with a USB 2.0 card just to clean up the database and bring it back online.

Much thanks dennisbbb.
