I am in the process of migrating a Windows NT 4.0 network, running Exchange 4.0 on the PDC, to Windows 2000 Server with a separate Exchange 2000 srver. Everything I can find says that the only way to do this is by first upgrading to Exchange 5.5, then upgrading to Exchange 2000. But I really don't want to buy both products if I don't have to. Is there a better way to do this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How many users?
If you haven't that many users you can use .PST files to back up each users mailbox to a locally held file thats readable by Outlook 97,98,2000,XP.

Then put in new server, build email accounts and copy the .PST contents back into mailboxes again...

Thanks for the reply,F1lby. The current domain has about 150 users, so backing up the .PSTs might take a while, but it's definitely worth considering. Also, I'd like to avoid having to manually re-create each of the users mailboxes, linking them to existing users, etc. But I'm open to any suggestions.
