I have a 2k3 server, sp1 (workgroup) that Brightstore Arcserve backup 11.1 is on, trying to backup an Exchange 2k3 sp2 on Win 2k3 sp1. It was working until I hid the admin (including the backup) accounts from the GAL. Another tech (impatient type)then ripped out the agents and reinstalled them before I discoved the problem. We have given a new account rights for backups but keep getting the following after it appears to have backed up 11GB.
E8524 Received unrecognized command from client agent. (COMMAND=0)
E8604
Failed to start backup. (DBNAME=First Storage Group, EC=)
Have tried new jobs on exchange but still the same. All other servers are backing up fine.
Any help would be appreciated!!!!!

Hi,

Has this patch been applied on windows 2003 Sp1 machines
which has arcserve and arserve agents:
If not please apply it:

Once done,
Goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on LocalMachine \ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ ComputerAssociates \ BrightStorArcservebackup\ DSAgent \ CurrentVersion
\agent \dbaexch

Highlight the Dbaexch and on the right handside double click on the NumberOfBlocks key and then change the value to 1 and recycle the backup agent RPC service

Good Luck
Cheers

Looks promising to me! I did a complete backup to disk using NTBackup late today and it cleared the logs so that verified it was a CA agent issue.
I let you know how it goes.

Thanks

Not sure which solved the issue - the ntbackup and resulting clearing of logs or the regedit on the NumberOfBlocks key but it's working again.

Thanks again!
