Hello All.
Apologies if this is the wrong area.
We are a very small new company struggling to start-up and get going, we've only been running for a few months and money for the moment is tight.
we decided for the sake of ease to spend some money on equipment. Having bought four new laptops each with windows 2013 on just a couple of months ago, we couldn't afford a brand new top of the line server and having spoken to a local I.T company they offered us a second hand Windows 2003 Standard Edition 64Bit Server and Exchange 2003. Which on the face of it for sharing files and low levels of email and users seemed like a good deal.
Well to cut a long story short, nothing really worked too well and having realised these guys have taken us for a ride we kicked them into touch, the email has always been a problem and never worked properly, we've never gotten the calender or contacts to work.
Looking at the problem and doing a little of our own research is seems our problem is that office 2013 needs Exchange 2007 as a minimum ? But we have Exchange 2003. (You'd think the I.T company would have sussed that)
We are quoting for a contract at the moment and if that comes off and its looking good, we'll have some funds to spend, so the question is having done a little research, if we where to install the Windows 2007 32bit now and run that for a short while, would it cope with four users until we can afford in a few months to invest in a new server ? According to what we have read, it would be unsupported and isn't recommended for a production environment but does that mean it will not work ?. Would it cope with just four users being ; four laptops and four HTC mobile phones using email ?
