Hi All,

I need to restore two mailboxes from an old backup. The only backup I have is a Database Level Backup. Can I restore the database to exchange and then restore the mailboxes without disturbing the current mailstore? Any help would be great!!

Thanks!

You mean you only have the .edb and .stm files, and not an Information Store backup?

There are some pretty cool 3rd party tools, including those from Ontrack and Sherpa, that will pull mail out of unmounted databases and put it into .pst files.

Sorry I did not word that very clear...but I actually have a backup of the mailstore...but I only want to restore two mailboxes that no longer exist in the current mailstore. (At the time the backup was created I did not have the brick level backup only the database level.) Can I use these tools you mention to extract the mailboxes from the old mailstore and import them to the new mailstore?

Those tools will allow you to extract mail to .pst files. You can then use exmerge to import them into any account.

BTW - Brick Level is evil. Research [google]exchange 2003 recovery storage group[/google]

Thanks for the tips! One last question...can I restore the old mailstore to the exchange server without affecting the current mailstore?

Nevermind...I just read from the link "exchange 2003 recovery storage group" and that answered my question. Thanks again for your help!
