Exchange 2003 and pop account Event 1023

I have several POP users on our exchange 2003, When the user sends a message to an incorrect email address. The NDR comes back to that account but, the user gets a message in outlook during a send/receive stating there is an unknown error with the mail server and cannot download any new messages.

The user calls me and right now as a workaround I log into the exchange account where the NDR shows up adn delete it from their account. The user can then pop again.

In the event log, Event ID 1023 shows up "error rendering message" and that doesn't really lead anywhere.

Sounds a lot like the old internet mail and Corporate/workgroup in the same profile - outlook client issue. Try creating two profiles, one for pop3 access, and one for exchange mapi access.

Checked that and there is only one pop account on the profile. Deleted and recreated profile still getting the same problem periodically (when there is a NDR). Happens on newly created profiles as well.

Kind of sloppy, but, when it happens here, I tell the client to go into the "outbox" and delete the stuck message. Things work again after that.

sorry might not have been totally clear, the message goes out initially but when the non-deliverable comes back, this is where it stops the user from popping until I log into the exchange account from my machine and delete the NDR. I call the user back and then he/she cannot pop again.
