receive the following error message when I click on the "send/receive" button from within the "inbox". "operation failed" That is all I receive and there is nothing in the systems event viewer logs.

This is a first time installation of exchange 2003, there were no previous mail server on the network at all.

It is running on a windows 2000 advanced server and the client being used is Outlook 2002.

this is the beginning of my testing to go live. The test messages I sent did make it to the recipient. I sent test message to myself. The problem occurs when I try to speed up the process by again hitting the "Send/Receive" button

I really need some help on this as there is little or nothing to go on from the error mesaage

Thanks ahead of time for your help.

I don't think the problem is incompatability between Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2002, as we are running the two together and it works fine. We are, though, running Exchange 2003 on a Win2003 server. The problem might be in how you have SMTP configured.

I am new to exchange is there a white paper on how to set up the SMTP?

After moving the world and uninstalling and reinstalling outlook again. I went through the registry and deleted all ref. to outlook and the bloody thing works great now.

thanks for all your help.
