I started with Exchange 5.5 on a DC (DC-1). A second DC exists - DC-2. A new box was purchased (Exch) and I followed appropriate instructions to install Exchange 2003, move data from 5.5 to 2003, etc. Exchange is running fine, but I do have a questions:

- If DC-2 is rebooted, Outlook cannot find Exchange.
- What relation does DC-2 have with the Exchange Server?
- Should that relationship and reliance exist?
- Should the Exchange box be a DC to remove that relationship?

I just want to make sure things are configured properly. Any input is appreciated.

Regards,

Dave

Exchange will shut down if it can not contact a Global Catalog server.

Microsoft does not support Exchange running on a DC unless it is Small Business Server.

It sounds like you have everythign configured properly, but you might want to make sure that both of your DCs are also GCs.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

markdmac - THANK YOU for your input. I found that DC-1 was not configured as a GC, so I've rectified that and you're correct - DC-2 was the only GC.

As a follow-up - You hit the nail right on the head. This worked. Thanks again.
