We are having problems sending to the following domain.

mn.rr.com

Everything I send to them is bounced back with the error below.

You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator.
<server01.lpatent.com #5.7.1>

I have seen other posts on here and I have looked at MS technet. None of the things those point to seem to relate to me. We have one exhange server, DNS is hosted off-site with ISP. I don't beleive this is a problem with our mail server. Is there anyway to test to find out if the problem is us or them. I need something for my customer,

Thanks much.

On your end:

Have your ISP ensure there is a ptr record for the A recodr the MX record points to.

On the other end:

Could be just about any rule the other end has set up. Anything from spam filters to mailbox limits. Have you tried contacting the postmaster of mn.rr.com?

Hi,
The more likely reason could be the sending ID may be block listed in the receipient mail server.
Also do check if you could send mails using different IDs and If none of you can send mails to that receipient ,the receipient mail server could have blocked not to get any mails from your server.

Try sending mails from someother servers (Yahoo or MSN).

I have tried contacting a admin on their end but no response. They are a huge ISP here in MN. Can I check for this PTR record myself? NSLOOKUP or something?

Sundae, I was able to send from Yahoo. I do get rejected from at least 3 user ID's from that exchange server.

You could check with nslookup.

ls -t PTR DOMAIN_NAME

I did go to a site that does a reverse lookup. When I did it for our IP address it resolves to our ISP's domain. So with that info I can probably assume that I have found our problem.

With a little help from your ISP, you should be able to get this resolved.

Chris

I beleive that your problem is related to a ZONE file problem with your MX records. From dnsreport.com:

ERROR: You have one or more MX record(s) that contain an IP address. This is not valid. Some mail servers may be able to send you mail, others may not. The problem MX records are: 64.198.103.213.

MX records should only have A records. Fix the MX record and I suspect that your problem will go away. And you have a CNAME for one of your MX entries. The rfcs specify only A records, no IP addresses or CNAMES.

Hmmm... The IP address 64.198.103.213 is the ip address responds with server01.lpatent.com, while pinging server01.lpatent.com resolves to 64.246.54.30.

You may want to clean up your zone file.

wd5dbc, how can I do this. We have an ISP, and a web hosting provider, and internal DNS strictly to support AD. My MX records are on the web hosting DNS servers. My ISP did fix the reverse lookup but I still have the problem, so I believe you may be on the right track.

What I have done now is:

Add A record for server01.laptent.com --> 64.198.103.213
Add MX record for lpatent.com --> server01.lpatent.com

Are these what you were referring to?

I made the changes and now the error message has changed to:

The e-mail system was unable to deliver the message, but did not report a specific reason. Check the address and try again. If it still fails, contact your system administrator.
