Has anyone seen this before?

I am encountering an error box during "component selection" with a big yellow exclamation that reads...

"Setup encountered an error while checking prerequisites for the component "Microsoft Exchange 2000": 0x80072030 (8240): There is no such objet on the server.

Environment:
I currently have an existing Exchange 2000 server up and running and this second server installation will eventually take the place of the existing server. (if I could ever get it installed) And if you are wondering, yes I have all the required services installed. The box is a brand new Dell 2650 with 4 GB RAM Plenty of hardware!

I have tried all of Microsoft's supposed fixes including removal and re-installation of the Active Directory Connector. I have turned off the default multithreading on the box, tried making it a DC, etc. etc. I am at the end of my rope with this box and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am eager to get this box into production and am extremly frustrated that something so easy is kicking my butt!!!

Thanks!

you dont need the ADC installed with a pure exchange 2000 environment

Which is true but if you research the error on TechNet you will see that the only posting regarding the error code, suggests this as a fix. Yes, Knowing that as well, I thought what the heck and gave it a try anyway.

Frustrating to me that an error code is being called upon which has no relation to any relevant article on the Microsoft site.

My suggestion would be to:
1.a. Frag the current OS/system on the box,
1.b. Remove any instances of the server (as named above) from the AD remembering to check the Exchange System Manager. You should have a look on the MS web site for instructions on how to remove a DC from AD.
2.a. Install Win2k from scratch as a Workgroup server only (SAS in the old language),
2.b. Install SP3 (not SP4; unproven so far in my opinion),
3. Connect to the domain as a Meber Server only (don't install AD),
4. Install Exchange 2000 - typical. (Make sure you install the NNTP & SMTP services 1st; under Add/Remove Windows Components, IIS),
5. Install the appropriate connectors. Documentation for installing Exchange 2k can be found at and
If you are relatively new to Exchange 2000 then download and read the Deployment PDF. It is comprehensive.

Good Luck.
